Rob and Big tell the tale of good friends

I was watching a show on MTV Called Rob and BIG and was laughing my ass off. It is the funniest show I have seen in a long time and as usual one thing leads to another so my mind starts to wandering and thinking about all the good times we share with friends. Like the trips we take to places unknown. Or with family. Recently we were informed of the passing of a good soul, we were not close because distance and circumstance dictated that we saw each other on a very infrequent basis but a friend none-the-less. The guys name was Paul and we never got to know his last name. He was the gatekeeper, caretaker, manager, and for all intents and purposes he was the Almighty , a legend in our minds keeping a firm hand on the operations of that little slice of paradise in Baja called Pete's Camp. We know he went out the way we all want to, in his sleep at Pete's where the sound of the ocean's waves lull you to the hereafter. Vaya con Dios Paul.

In all of us there is a moment or two that we wish we could relive again and again like:
your first date or maybe the first time you stood up on your surfboard or the first trip to a foreign country. I don't know about you but as I get older I tend to remember a lot of these things.
Looking back over the last few years we have witnessed a couple of memorable events like Ricardo and Alexis's wedding at the Polo field/convection oven that is the Rancho El Aguila in San Miguel. Good times... or maybe you could recall the time we actually took RDZ1 our class 9 car out for a spin in the desert just outside of Barstow, Ca and promptly tore the steering box completely off its mounting point. Ahhh good times. Then again there was that time that we shared a brief moment of fame on the Today Show with Matt Lauer, Meridith Viera and Al Roker.
Any ways you get the picture.

Live life to the fullest.
Enjoy the moment and remember this most important of all...
If your not having fun doing what your doing then you need to be doing something else

The Trouble with Dogs..

Dogs are unquestionably mans best friend but sometimes, too much friendship is not necessarily a good thing. Sometimes we all need a little quiet time, you know, alone time, time that doesn't require picking up Dookie or Scrubbing the dirt encrusted dustmop of a rat faced dog who smells like a well rode saddle on a hot day until the water runs clear again..

Then again they are sooo cute!!!who could deny a face like that a little love and attention and maybe a biscuit or two!!

However, there is that other dog. The one from the south part of town, the one that tends to want to take over every time the daughter comes to visit...

Something evil about this one...

A trip to the orthodontist might help.

Sandy Eggo Super Chargers..........

Well thanks to my favorite daughter I got a nice birthday present of tickets to the San Diego Charger Playoff game #1 SD Vs the Tennessee Titans.

Me and the Older brother the one with the fascination for all things Charger Blue along with the wife headed south to Gods Country which just happens to be "America's Finest City" or so they say. We met up with the daughter #1 at the pre-determined location where upon we, the aging Brothers Rdz were going to catch the modern day version of the Rooter bus to the game....

I then and there realized that the best part about riding the bus is that it is the only thing at a pro game that you can afford without having to take a second on your house.

Upon arrival at the stadium we were greeted by the scent of 1000 barbeque's and a sea of Charger blue EZ ups... what a surreal experience!! Once off the bus we wandered aimlessly amongst the faithful begging and pleading for that spare beer or dog or taste of the sizzling carne asada. Most were glad to oblige except for the occasional "Private Party Lady" but more on that later. The event got off to a great start with dancing girls explosions, fly overs, and known celebrities mingling with the proletariat. We had great seats right in front of the Head Coaches Private suite where said celebs were enjoying a fully catered and well stocked assortment of goodies the cost of which probably dwarfs most city budgets. Mr QB Dan Fouts was there as was former Ram and USC coach John Robinson, What a great guy Was friendly enough to chat with me and gave me an autograph for the scrap book. Well the older bro wanted Mr Fouts's signature and just as we were leaving the game an opportunity presented itself so he asked him for said autograph which Mr. QB agreed to provide. Just then some gussied up old cougar wannabe interviened to inform the older Bro that this was a "Private Party" implying that we could not interfere with her space and that asking her guests for an autograph was not allowed...... Well So What!!! we got the autograph anyway toodles BEE ACHHHHHH!!!

Ahh what fun life is have a great week.

Bungle in the Jungle or how I learned to Rock the Crock!!

Ok now I am not one to be bothered by a few snakes or lizzards but upon arrival to this south pacific haven for all things with legs, wings and teeth, I became a bit concerned but the sheer quantity of the as they say in "tico" KoKoDrillos....
Yeah big and nasty and always hungry.
We should have taken this little encounter more seriously as we soon found out that crocks weren't the only inhabitants of the locale in deed we had our share of Iguanas, Frogs, Birds (large and small) and Geico Geckos.

We settled into our bungalow #8 and it was the most incredible site, A clear view of a beautiful ocean with black sand beaches, the rain forest to our back and a really neat swimming pool just steps away. I was a happy man this was indeed paradise. Break open the champaign I am signing up for the lifetime membership. The days passed rapidly and we tried as we might to do something meaningful but it turned out that the best thing to do was as we all intended to do in the first place...Rest!!!

Well OK so we ate a bunch of native fruits and veggies we were hungry and they needed to be eaten at least thats what the crock told us....

We read, played cards drank all kinds of beverages and enjoyed the best coffee ever poured from a homemade Mr. Coffee. yeah this was the life until that is the dive bombing mosquitos devoured Raquel and tried to wreak havoc on the rest of us. we fought back bravely with Burt's Bees Organic insect repellent but we needed Deet!!! These guys think of repellent as some sort of salad dressing and just want to bite you even more.

Of course then the sunny skys gave way to a rainstorm which begat some rather high humidity which encouraged the mildew smell which upset the water clarity in our toilet which proceeded to flush with water browner than well you get the picture Ugh......

All in all we had a great time and are making plans for a return. I would highly recommend this trip as you really get to relax in an unspoiled setting in accommodations that can fit your lifestyle.
Great food, coffee, tour guides if you want them and some really cool Canopy tours for the adventurous types. For tour info contact Jorge Barrantes at www.costaricaexotictour.com
